Project Leader: Italian National Research Council-Institute for Educational Technologies of Palermo

Title: MoULe - Mobile and Ubiquitous Learning

The MoULe - Mobile and Ubiquitous Learning project carried out at the Italian National Research Council, Institute for Educational Technologies – Palermo. It is part of the CORFAD project. CORFAD was set up by the Sicilian government with the aim of developing a centre of knowledge for distance learning. The key idea behind the MoULe project is to support learning experience based on collaborative knowledge building processes supported by mobile device. The MoULe project implements and experiments an innovative learning environment that allows students to overcome the space-temporal limitations of classroom activities based on a mixture of classroom and on site experiences. Using the GPS technology, the system automatically associates the students’ activities with their geographical location. Users can edit and share documents using both desktop computers, through an extension of Moodle platform, and smartphones. The main functionalities are: localized annotation, synchronous and asynchronous communication tools, localized search, creation of shared content by a wiki. The MoULe project is a finalist for the Educational category of the first annual Mobile Learning Excellence Awards, which recognize mobile learning solutions and innovations....
